Technical Competency Manager

Applus+ is a leading global energy service provider looking to recruit a Technical
Competence Manager based within our one of our Applus UK locations. This role
will provide quality and technical competency requirements for the Engineering,
Aerospace and Vendor Inspection services.

Key Responsibilities of the Technical Competence Manager include but
are not limited to:

This role relates to the assessing of the technical competency of NDT Inspection
technicians engaged in inspection & quality assurance activities and that part
of the company NDT Inspection operation covered by its ISO 9001 and ISO
17020 Quality Management Systems;
Accountable to ensure a consistent approach is maintained and continually
improved as applicable in the Integrity Engineering compliance to ISO
17020:2012
Ensuring that technical Assessors are conducting competency assessments
in accordance with the competency procedure
Preparing and reviewing Written Schemes of Examination (WSE)
Identifying preparation requirements from the WSE Examination in accordance
with the WSE Coordination of NDT providers for extensive requirements
or specialist methods, Assessment and/or Preparation of clear reports
including assessment of deterioration
Responsibility for the Impartiality and Independence Risk Register
and raise Compliance Notification
Tracking and managing competency progress across all UK Sites
Implement the necessary corrective actions following the Independent
Assessment with support of the company
Assist with training (PCN/ASNT) and mentoring in-house technicians
and apprentices and to external clients
Contributing to the HSE monthly report
Auditing of NDT activities in accordance with approved procedures
for the base and site operations ensuring that the quality system is
adhered to
To provide support to other Company geographical locations with
regards to quality auditing and Technician surveillance requirements.
This includes trade tests, and Competency test for all NDT technicians
To maintain copies of all Quality documents and inspection procedures,
ensuring they are monitored, revised and reviewed up to date, for
the company
To act as part of the NDT technical team, participating in meetings
and agreeing, controlling and developing NDT activities and meeting
agreed actions
The timely identification and reporting of any non-conformance in the
quality system and execution of corrective and preventative action
To support / assist with all ongoing technical activities within the UK
Assist with the control and distribution of all Technical Documents
and procedures.
What we would like from the Technical Competence Manager:

To have a minimum of one level 2 qualification or experience in all
or most NDT techniques
Familiar with ISO 17020:2012 and or UKAS Assessments
At least 3 years field experience and management or supervisory
experience
Familiar with Trade testing and Competency of technicians
Able to take a pro-active approach to the likely demands for work
Ability to communicate effectively with client representatives,
this Company’s management, office and site staff
Ability to work on their own initiative and work well in a team environment
Excellent organisation skills as well as being able to prioritise workloads
Knowledge in MS Packages e.g. Word, Excel and Outlook.
