• Sample welding inspection procedure:

      1. Verify that the welding procedure specification (WPS) and welding procedure qualification record (WPQR) are available and are appropriate for the work being performed.

      2. Review the WPS and WPQR to ensure that they include all necessary information, such as the materials being used, the joint design, the welding process, the preheat and interpass temperatures, and the welding consumables.

      3. Confirm that the welding operator is qualified and certified to perform the work in accordance with the WPS and WPQR.

      4. Verify that the materials being used, including the base metal, filler metal, and any backing material, are suitable for the work being performed and meet the requirements of the WPS and WPQR.

      5. Inspect the joint design to ensure that it is correct and meets the requirements of the WPS and WPQR.

      6. Inspect the welding equipment to ensure that it is in good working condition and is suitable for the work being performed.

      7. Observe the welding process to ensure that it is being performed in accordance with the WPS and WPQR, and that the welds are being made in the correct sequence and at the correct temperatures.

      8. Inspect the completed welds to ensure that they meet the requirements of the WPS and WPQR, including the dimensions, appearance, and mechanical properties of the welds.

      9. Record the results of the inspection, including any nonconformances or corrective actions that are required.

      10. Retain the inspection records for future reference and as part of the quality control documentation for the project.
