Inspection Engineer

Valero Energy Corporation, the world’s largest independent oil refiner, refines, markets
and supplies energy products to the world from our refinery in Pembroke. Pembroke
is one of Western Europe’s largest and most complex refineries, with a total throughput
capacity of 270,000 barrels per day. We currently have the opportunity to recruit an
Inspection Engineer within the Technical Services department based at Pembroke.
The successful candidate will plan and conduct inspections of pressure equipment
and piping in accordance with Corporate Quality Assurance Policy and Statutory
Regulations.

Main Duties

Lead by example in all areas of safety. Actively participate in, and lead Loss
Prevention behavioural safety meetings.
Responsible for the routine inspections of processoff-plot units, utilities
equipment and piping.
Accredited to UKAS requirements in order to carry out inspection duties
as required by ISO 17020 – General Criteria for the Operation of Various
Bodies Performing Inspection.
Carry out statutory inspections in accordance with the Pressure Equipment
Safety Regulations 2016 and the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations: 2000.
Plan, direct and interpret non-destructive examinations of and equipment
and piping as an aid to statutory inspection.
Collate inspection, NDE, repair and modification information during
shutdowns for reports and plans for future actions.
Ensure new construction works, repairs and modifications are carried out
in accordance with the relevant Corporate, National and International
codes and standards.
Investigate and report on equipmentpiping failures and recommend
repairsmodifications to prevent re-occurrence.
Represent Valero at external industrial committees such as EEMUA
UIC and INT committees and the BIS NOBO forum.
Contribute to the development and coaching of other Engineers and,
act as a Mentor or Delegate Mentor to developing engineers as required.
Candidate Requirements:

Mechanical Engineering Degree with industry experience in
Mechanical/Materials or Process; with one or more of the following
Industry Qualifications; API 510, 570, 579, 653 (or EEMUA 159).
Professional Member or working towards Professional Membership
of the IMechECEng.
Knowledge of metallurgy, corrosion mechanisms and refinery processes.
Knowledge of NDT techniques.
Knowledge of Pressure Systems Safety Regulations, Pressure Systems
Design and Pressure Equipment Directive.
Knowledge and application of Risk Based Inspection.
