    Hi everyone,

I’m looking for practical advice on industrial cooling water treatment. We run an open recirculating system with moderately hard makeup water, currently using a traditional phosphate-zinc program with bromine biocide.

    We’re evaluating changes to address:

    1. Environmental compliance: Increasing pressure on phosphate discharge limits.

    2. Biofilm control: Occasional outbreaks in low-flow areas.

    From your experience:

    1. What are effective, more sustainable alternatives to phosphate-based corrosion inhibitors (e.g., all-organic programs, molybdates)? Key factors are cost, reliability, and ease of management.

    2. For biofilm control, which non-oxidizing biocides or biodispersants have proven most effective in similar systems?

Any insights on operational trade-offs or lessons learned would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

(Note: I work in the water treatment chemicals sector.)
