Seeking Advice on Cooling Water Treatment Programs
Seeking Advice on Cooling Water Treatment Programs
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for practical advice on industrial cooling water treatment. We run an open recirculating system with moderately hard makeup water, currently using a traditional phosphate-zinc program with bromine biocide.
We’re evaluating changes to address:
Environmental compliance: Increasing pressure on phosphate discharge limits.
Biofilm control: Occasional outbreaks in low-flow areas.
From your experience:
What are effective, more sustainable alternatives to phosphate-based corrosion inhibitors (e.g., all-organic programs, molybdates)? Key factors are cost, reliability, and ease of management.
For biofilm control, which non-oxidizing biocides or biodispersants have proven most effective in similar systems?
Any insights on operational trade-offs or lessons learned would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
(Note: I work in the water treatment chemicals sector.)
