I wanna share a brief real case that we had here in project with many HDPE joints and the reflector points we were finding. We used a Conventional TOFD technique with Aqualink rubber and then the SS TOFD technique with water colum couplant.

We demonstrated that point reflectors were not generated by the fusion process.

I hope this could be very ilustrated for all of you.

It was a very good demonstration for one side TOFD. With the benefit of lateral and backwall dead zones elimination, it is useful for single side access welds when traditional TOFD is not practical to perform.

Diffraction amplitude of upper and lower tip with respect to angle is available for traditional TOFD. Is similar one available for same side TOFD?
