Investigating thin-walled Stainless Steel Pipework (2-4mm thickness) with Phased-Array UT. Looking for small surface breaking defects. What are the best probe specs to use in people’s opinion?

    5 to10MHz, 16/32 element?

2mm MAY not be examined by PAUT successfully. I have no PAUT expericence with 2mm. But creep wave worth trying.

Above 3mm, you can try probe with A15 housing, with 16 elements generally. Maybe 5L16 or 7.5L16, but you need to try.

Key for such thin weld is the size of wedge. Smaller is better.

Shear wave is enough for such thin stainless steel.
