Level 2 NDT Technician with Rope Access

20 July 21

Dear Sir/Madam,

As a physically fit, reliable HM Forces veteran and Medic with Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (May 2021); PCN Level 2 Ultrasonic 3.1, 3.2 (May 2021); PCN Level 2 Magnetic Particle Inspection (Jan 2021); PCN Level 2 Liquid Penetrant Inspection (Mar 2021); and Level 1 IRATA Rope Access (Jun 2021), I am writing to express my suitability for the advertised role.

You will see from my CV that I have spent 20 years in the army where I rose through the ranks and retrained as a Medic in 2016. Throughout this time, I have consistently developed my knowledge and skills from the technical to the softer skills of communication, teamwork and conflict resolution, in highly challenging and dangerous situations. I am positive and forward-looking, always seeking ways to resolve issues or solve problems, finding safe, low-risk opportunities to achieve desired outcomes. I spent 2 years training civilians to become infantrymen and was praised at all levels for my training and communication skills. I pride myself on my team working and collaborative tendencies, always being open to others’ ideas and willingness to try new things. As a leader of teams since 2005 in often kinetic, war zone situations, it has been incredibly important to be a strong team player who builds team spirit and morale and galvanises others to be positive and succeed.

I have extensive experience in administration, have sound spelling and grammar skills, and always ensure my written communications and reports are clear, error-free and fit for purpose. Having passed the PCN level 2 courses above, as well as all my forces training, this demonstrates my numeracy abilities as well as aptitude for comprehension, analysis and interpretation of a wide range of materials. I have strong reasoning skills and have now worked with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry, and can apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Having completed an ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence), and utilised a variety of programs in the Forces, I have complete knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel ,I also possess GCSE passes in English, Maths and Science, a clear eye test, and excellent hearing.

I began becoming interested in this field in 2020, as it utilises my fitness, risk assessment & management, safety, critical thinking and decision-making, teamwork and communication skills. I also believe my army experience and knowledge fits well with the role. I have been undertaking all the required training to become a Level 2 NDT Technician with Rope Access and have achieved high scores. I hope therefore that my CV aptly demonstrates my capabilities, and I would warmly welcome the opportunity to discuss the matter further.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Mackenzie
