GKN Aerospace is adding a Level 2 NDT technician at its Western Approach composite wing plant near Bristol. The job is ultrasonic inspection of carbon-fibre A350 XWB and A400M wing spars and related parts, using phased array and pulse-echo ultrasound in both semi-automated and manual form. Candidates need logged training and experience hours that qualify them for EN 4179 Level 2 UT on composites.

What the job involves

Inspect carbon-fibre wing spars and their sub-components with semi-automated and manual PAUT and pulse-echo UT
Report findings on NDT matters and support the site NDT Level 3
Uphold aerospace quality standards and health and safety rules
Liaise with customers and suppliers when needed
Help improve NDT processes and documentation, and work at customer sites if required

What you need

Documented classroom and practical hours sufficient for EN 4179 Level 2 ultrasonic testing of carbon-fibre composites
Able to read engineering drawings and apply mathematical formulae confidently
Understanding of composite manufacture and quality standards in aerospace
Team player who can also work alone on process improvement

Pay and conditions

Seven-day fortnight shift pattern (Mon, Tue, Fri, Sat, Sun then Wed, Thu) with a 28% shift allowance
