Howmet Aerospace is filling an FPI Level I position at its Berea, Ohio site. The role prepares and runs parts through the fluorescent penetrant line, checks them against drawings and customer requirements, and keeps traceability records under NADCAP and ASTM standards. A high school diploma or GED and the ability to gain and keep NAS 410 FPI Level I certification are required; prior NDT experience is preferred but not essential.

What the job involves

  • Clean, mask and prepare part surfaces before fluorescent penetrant inspection
  • Run parts through the penetrant line according to established work instructions
  • Confirm parts meet customer requirements, drawings and work instructions, and keep traceability and production records accurate
  • Carry out daily FPI equipment checks, help with routine maintenance and keep the area clean and organized
  • Work to company, customer, ASTM and NADCAP quality standards and EHS rules for chemicals and equipment
  • Report nonconforming material, quality concerns or equipment problems to supervisors and join improvement activities

What you need

  • High school diploma or GED; background in manufacturing or aerospace is a plus
  • NDT or FPI experience preferred but not required
  • Able to obtain and keep NAS 410 FPI Level I certification (or meet company certification rules)
  • Meet NAS 410 vision requirements, including near vision and colour perception, and see fluorescent indications under UV light
  • Able to read blueprints, work instructions and specifications, spot defects and document findings clearly
  • Stand and walk for long periods, lift up to 35 lb often and up to 50 lb with assistance
