SpaceX is hiring NDE Level II inspectors in Hawthorne, California to check flight hardware and production assemblies for its Falcon, Dragon and Starship programs. Inspectors run surface and volumetric examinations and pass their findings to production and engineering teams. A Level II certificate (SNT-TC-1A, NAS 410 or DoD practice) in ET, RT, immersion UT or PAUT is the core requirement.

What the job involves

  • Carry out surface and volumetric NDE examinations on flight parts and assemblies
  • Assess indications and share results with production and engineering
  • Read engineering drawings when an inspection calls for it
  • Enhance digital images so indications are clear and accurately judged
  • Help develop techniques for parts with complex geometry and support qualification of critical processes
  • Train and mentor other members of the inspection team

What you need

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Level II certificate in ET, RT, immersion UT or PAUT, qualified under SNT-TC-1A, NAS 410 or a DoD scheme
  • Preferred: extra Level II methods, weld inspection experience and 2+ years as an aerospace Level II
  • Preferred: AWS CWI, NASA 5009 knowledge and experience with superalloys, titanium and high-strength aluminum
  • ITAR eligibility: US citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee, or able to obtain export authorization
  • Able to lift 25 lb and willing to work overtime and weekends

Pay and conditions

  • Pay: USD 25-60 per hour, as published by SpaceX.
  • Shift choice: weekday early or late shifts, or Thursday to Sunday 12-hour day or night shifts
  • Hourly pay graded in five bands spanning $25 to $60
  • Medical, dental and vision cover, 401(k), 3 weeks paid vacation and 10+ paid holidays; stock-based incentives possible
