    Hello All,

    We are the manufactures of centrifugal castings,limited to copper and copper alloys.

    I have tried the testing using A-scan by 2 Mhz probe on gunmetal & Bronze castings, but there is no back wall echo. When tried with a 1Mhz probe we got a back wall echo but a lot of noise scattering.
    I am not able to avoid it. We want a technique to identify the defect & its dimensions.

    Is there any technique by or by any means we can do the ultrasonic examination of Gun metal or bronze castings with a thickness range of 30 to 70 mm.

    Copper castings can have a extremely large grain size that make it difficult for sound penetration. Your best approach is to first reduce grain size of castings,
